Hail Storm Loveland and Fort Collins CO

After the hail stopped pounding down Wednesday night and the sky cleared, the neighbors of Sedgwick Circle in northwest Loveland came out to compare damage.
The Blanchards were lucky because their home went unscathed, Renee Blanchard said. The screens and roof were without tears or holes.
“We were surprised at that, based on the sounds,” she said. A severe thunderstorm Wednesday evening dumped from one-third to one-half inch of rain and hail on neighborhoods in west Loveland and southwest Fort Collins.
But the family’s 2008 Ford F150 pickup was not so fortunate. Quarter-size hailstones had pelted its hood and roof, leaving small dents in their wake, Blanchard said. She was not sure yet if she and her husband would file a claim for the damage.
The Blanchards’ neighbors across the street had it worse. The icy hailstones punctured holes in their hot tub’s cover.
And these two cases were not unique.
As of noon Thursday, projections showed 200 auto-related and 200 homeowner-related claims from Loveland and Fort Collins had been filed with State Farm Insurance, spokeswoman Angela Thorpe said.
Statewide, State Farm received 6,500 claims for vehicle damage and 4,000 for homes. The damaged properties included areas along the Interstate 25 corridor, where Thorpe said the storm “really had a punch.”
Figures were not complete Thursday because it may take time for some people to notice and report damage, Thorpe said.
Keeping that in mind, Thorpe encouraged State Farm customers who have not done so to file their claims on a special line opened after Wednesday’s storm. Those who can`t get through to their local offices should call 800-732-5246.
On the city level, Loveland facilities manager Ken Cooper said he had not heard of any damage to city of Loveland buildings or facilities that required fixing. The situation was similar in Fort Collins.
Doug Heustis, the facilities scheduler who takes all service requests for Fort Collins, said he took only one request Thursday.
Strong winds knocked tree branches onto the roof of a city-owned house on Kechter Road and damaged some gutters, he said.
With Wednesday’s storm blown over, Thorpe’s advice to all, not just State Farm customers, was the same: Report any and all damage as soon as possible.
